Croeso i ddosbarth Mrs Morgan!
I would like to take this opportunity to welcome you and your child back to school. My aim as a teacher is for your child to make good progress and enjoy their time in Year 2. I would also like you to become involved in your child’s education as much as possible.
To navigate to any of the Year 2 web pages please click on the link below:
Obviously, there are interesting things about your child which I and their fellow classmates might not know. Could you please fill in the following details about your the interests and achievements of your child and return it to me as soon as possible.
The theme for this term is Ourselves. With this in mind, if you or any other family member would like to come to school and speak about or demonstrate any profession, hobby or any other skill you may have, connected with the theme, please let me know as soon as possible. Children learn, enjoy and respond very well to visits and visitors.
Our role-play area will be a ‘Doctor’s Surgery’. If you have any unwanted bandages, slings etc we will be very grateful.
As part of the theme the children will be making a ‘Healthy Sandwich’ in Design and Technology and tasting lots of healthy foods. If your child has any food allergies please let me know as soon as possible.
With the money the Year 2 children have raised at their cake stalls I have bought some Language and Maths games. The games are more beneficial for the children if they are played with an adult. If you or any other family member are available on a Tuesday afternoon at 2:15pm please complete the form overleaf so I can write a ‘Parent Rota’.
So that your child can play a full part in school activities they will require the following items:
· A labelled book bag to transport books, letters etc to school.
· A labelled recorder for a recorder lesson every Monday.
· Labelled shorts and T-shirt for P.E. in the gym every Friday.
Each week your child will complete a THRASS worksheet in class. This will include the THRASS spelling words we will be concentrating on for the week. The worksheet will be sent home but does NOT have to be returned to school. If you have time you may wish to practise the spellings with your child.
The ‘Key Words’ sheet lists the words that your child will use most frequently in their independent writing. It would be very helpful if you could practise reading and spelling these words throughout the year.
Homework and a Maths game will be given to your child every Monday and should be brought back to school the following Monday. If the Maths game is not returned they will not be given another game to take home. Your child can also choose a reading book to take home from the colour coded book boxes in the classroom as often as they wish. Your child will have a ‘School Reading Journal’ and a ‘Home Reading Journal’ to keep a record of the books they have read. Your child may need some help filling the journal in.
Finally, if you have any questions or problems about your child’s education and progress please do not hesitate to come and see me.
Diolch yn fawr!
